I love March. Yes, there’s spring and tax refunds to enjoy, but I look forward to March because of Women’s History Month. PBS programming during this month is a particular joy for the many documentaries about American women.
Here are three of my March 2022 favorites:

Marin Alsop - PBS * TheConductor.com
Marin Alsop became one of the world's first women to conduct an orchestra. What is so special about an orchestra conductor, you might ask? A conductor is a musical director of an orchestra. S/he operates on three different levels: listening to the music, keeping it strong and true within each musical performer, and also guaranteeing the music is played as the artist originally intended it to be - so that the listener can fully appreciate the music.
Get set to be inspired by Marin Alsop's fearless journey into this male-dominated industry.

Annie Oakley - PBS American Experience

Known as "Sure-Shot Annie", Oakley became famous on both sides of the continent as the first American woman sharpshooter. Her story takes her on both sides of the continent, from starring in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show to defeating William Randolph Hearst in court.
It's interesting to note that although Ms. Oakley did not consider herself a feminist, she promoted the training of firearms for women and favored equal wage parity.
"The magic of Annie Oakley is so extraordinary that you cannot imagine anybody could have created a character like that. In her 66 year life she created achievements of adventure that has no match in American history. She was such a complicated package, challenging us to think and rethink ideas about what means to be female in society, at a time when women just didn't do what she does..."

Caught up in the tales of golden veins and riches, she packed up her belongings and left France to join the Gold Rush in 1850.
