Let me say right upfront that no one – and I mean no one - does crime drama like the South Korean entertainment industry. They raise the genre to an entirely sublime form, akin to an elegant ballet.
So with a title like Kill Bak-soon, one expects violence, but here it’s executed with such skill and grace, that it can hardly be considered gruesome or gory.
Enter Bok-soon, an accomplished killer, who would love to consider herself just another working mother, with a rather unique profession; regardless of the “Kill Bok-soon” nickname from her envious peers. Their high regard is also tinged with respect for her personal code of honor, at once old-school yet flexible enough to be considered progressive.
And what a time for an existential crisis! Her 15 year contract with MK and Co. is expiring, her teenage daughter, Jae-yeong, borders on homicidal, a female CEO is out for her blood - and her coworkers are looking to take over her number one kill slot.
Kill Bok-soon will enthrall diehard fans of Kdrama, and entertain those who love stylish fight scenes. And for those who love a little family conflict along the way – bring a tissue.
