Innuendo is the first feature-length independent film for Finnish artist Saara Lamberg. Shot in Victoria, Australia, Innuendo sketches a mystery thriller of twin sisters, with one hell-bent on revenge. Set for release in 2017, the film's haunting musical score by Charly Harrison compliments the unforgettable cinematography of Michael Liparota.
Ms. Lamberg plays siblings Tuuli and Suvi, whose tortured past leaves Tuuli emotionally isolated, wandering from one empty encounter to another. However, the portrayal is so muted that it's hard to connect with her Tuuli. Actor Brendon Bacon - Tuuli's confused lover Ben - delivers a solid performance as a man incapable of reading the handwriting on the wall when it comes to this cautionary tale of a new girlfriend.
Saara Lamberg's direction indicates that she has a promising future ahead, but her script plunges us into gaping plot holes, demonstrating a lack of understanding for the mystery genre - and sadly, choppy editing by Adam Ghiggino further undercuts the dramatic tension of Innuendo.
Yet, it's inspiring to see a woman break glass ceilings in the film industry with such joy and I’m betting Saara Lamberg will be keeping us entertained for many films to come.
Innuendo is scheduled for a release soon, check IMDb for more details.
